APEC stands for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum that was established in the year 1989, in the city of Canberra, Australia. Since its origins APEC's work has been aimed towards the promotion of economic growth, fostering and strengthening trade, and improving living standards in the Asia-Pacific region.
Currently, there are 21 member economies, developed and developing, that have a combined Gross Domestic Product of 16 trillion dollars and represent around 56% of international trade. APEC's work is centered on three pillars: trade facilitation, trade liberalization and, technical and economic cooperation.
Peru became a member of APEC in 1999, and since, has increased its trade relations, investment and cooperation with member economies in the region.

Throughout 2008, Peru will host APEC meetings, including the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting, Ministerial Meetings and meetings of the various working groups. These meetings will take place in different cities in Peru and will include participants from member economies such as government officials and representatives from the business sector.
APEC 2008 is a good opportunity to promote Peru as the economic and trade hub in Latin America. Due to the importance of APEC, government institutions have implemented an Action Plan especially designed in order to guarantee the success of the meetings.

The Ministry of Production is responsible for the activities regarding Industry and Fisheries. It develops, approves, executes and monitors policies of national scope applicable to the production and processing in these sectors, promoting their competitiveness and increasing production and the responsible use of resources and environmental protection. For this purpose, it is responsible for issuing national standards and monitoring compliance on regulations regarding these sectors.
The Ministry of Production is the driving force for economic growth in Peru. The annual growth rates are already around 14%. This growth can only be achieved through stability and transparency which is our priority. We invite you to do business and to continue growing together.
